How do I edit my Hosts file or flush my DNS?
Sometimes your DNS may cache and you may not be able to access a certain domain until your ISP updates it's DNS resolver. This tutorial will talk you through a few things you can attempt whilst you wait on your ISP.
Flushing your DNS
In Windows xp:
1) Click start menu.
2) Go to run.
3) Type in cmd.exe and press enter.
4) The command prompt box opens in command prompt type ipconfig /flushdns and await a success message.
In Vista or Windows 7:
1) Click start menu.
2) Go to all programs.
3) Go to accessories.
4) Right click on command prompt and click "run as administrator".
5) The command prompt box opens up, type ipconfig /flushdns and await a success message.
Your DNS should now have been flushed and you may be able to connect to the domain, if you are still having trouble you can edit the hosts file but we only recommend this as a last resort and if you know exactly what you are doing. Should you proceed to do this, when your ISP has updated it's DNS resolver (usually 24 hours) and you are able to connect to the domain again we highly recommend you remove what you have added to your hosts file as if the IP changes for the domain you will have problems connecting to it.
